Mary lives amid the boxes her abused mother left behind. Her husband David tries desperately to stay young and hip, following old friend Richard and his wife Sylvia into a world of designer drugs and dangerous sex. But when Mary is the victim of a brutal act of violence, it leads them each down different paths of addiction and realization.
