King Cat Calico Finally Flies Free!

Vitals
Theatre Company:
Son of Semele Ensemble
Playwright:
Aaron Henne
Description:

Heidi Hendrickson has an obsession, a compulsion really - she has 150 cats in her eleven hundred square foot apartment, including sixty dead ones in the Frigidare. She has an especially intimate relationship with the alpha cat, one King Cat Calico who keeps trying to escape this hellish tuna filled, feces stained prison, to no avail.

KING CAT CALICO FINALLY FLIES FREE! is a fun filled exploration of loneliness, possession and the need to claim one's place in this uncertain world. Featuring a cameo by Rush Limbaugh, singing(literally) the praises of Oxy-Contin, or what he lovingly refers to as his "little blues."

Note: running time is 90 minutes. no intermission

BONUS: On Fridays & Saturdays (after KING CAT) SOSE hosts Elke Luyten performing her corporeal mime solo performance piece "Here Is Someone". "Here Is Someone" integrates richly detailed movement scores with text from Antonin Artaud and music by Charles Ives. This special presentation begins at 10pm and patrons are invited to stay free of charge. Running time for "Here Is Someone" is 20 minutes.

"There is plenty of risk and reward involved when all five plays are true originals being staged for the first time. The real success comes in seeing that the actors are inspired to follow suit and make the right decisions with such unique material. It’s obvious that the Moving Arts Ensemble is doing all it can to remain daring and original. Each play is thought provoking and original." --- Josh Barry, LASplash Magazine

HYPERBOLE: epiphany

Vitals
Theatre Company:
Ark Theatre Company
Playwright:
Son of Semele Ensemble & Rogue Artists Ensemble
Description:

Comprised of a series of short vignettes set to original music, HYPERBOLE: epiphany explores life's ordinary moments of birth, adolescence, death, love, faith and chaos in extraordinary ways. The stories of epiphany are brought to life with music, stylized movement, digital video, theatrical effects and the use of over fifty puppets and masks. The HYPERBOLE series is self-described by the Rogues as "hyper-theater," more akin in style to a live music video than to a play. The more than 20 songs featured in HYPERBOLE: epiphany, selected from over forty local musicians and music groups, is an eclectic mix that ranges in style from originally composed chamber orchestra pieces, to rock, punk and the wildly experimental. The music serves to score each storyline and drive the plot of each mini-play. HYPERBOLE: epiphany will feature music written and recorded by many LA artists including The Ditty Bops, Jack Irons, Run Run Run and Ben Phelps (a featured percussionist at Disney Concert Hall).

Slow & Tight 3

Vitals
Playwright:
Various
Description:

SLOW & TIGHT 3 once again takes eight of the best scripts ever written for Fast & Loose, prepared with loving care over the course of two months (as opposed to the 24 hour time limit of F&L).

The result is a wonderfully eclectic night of theatre that includes:

* A support group for people who each never learned to do something... IMPORTANT...

* A class where three beautiful women learn a special skill...

* A clown on the edge meets his match at the latest birthday party...

* And lots more, that to describe would be to ruin, but suffice it to say you'll see pirates and balloon animals and young lovers and wheelchairs and guns and strange things falling from the sky.

SLOW & TIGHT. You know you like it that way.

Triple Crown

Vitals
Theatre Company:
Ark Theatre Company
Playwright:
Various
Description:

Where the top three come back,
and the rest... Rest!

"A hell of a lot of fun... this theatrical formula is a hoot!"
-BackStage West (2004)

"Fast-paced, fun filled... bravura late-night entertainment!"
-BackStage West (2005)

TRIPLE CROWN is a Sacred Fools late-night, fun-spirited competition where actors, writers & directors compete against other actors, writers & directors for your entertainment.

And You… You get to choose which three come back the next week... and which don’t.

Triple Crown – How it works -- In A Nutty Shell

1. The Best Short Original Scripts Are Chosen By the team of Producers.

2. "Teams" (writers, directors and actors) are put together by the individuals who submitted the chosen scripts.

3. Each “team” rehearses on their own.

4. On Saturday Night, just after the mainstage show, "teams" will compete against other "teams" for the Audience's pleasure.

5. At the end of the show, the audience chooses which three pieces come back the following week. And of course... which pieces don't.

6. The following week, the returning pieces compete, this time against other new pieces, written, acted and directed by other new teams. All of this, for the amusement of the Audience.
